Review by Melinda Johnson

Miklós Rózsa Conducts His Great Film Music is an exceptional album that brings together the legendary composer Miklós Rózsa and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The album features some of Rózsa's most iconic film scores, including "Ben-Hur," "El Cid," and "Spellbound."

The album is a testament to Rózsa's remarkable talent and his ability to create music that perfectly captures the mood and essence of a film. His compositions are powerful, emotive, and beautifully crafted, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra brings them to life with stunning precision and passion.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Ben-Hur," which features a majestic and sweeping score that perfectly captures the grandeur and epic nature of the film. The orchestra's performance is flawless, and their rendition of the iconic chariot race theme is nothing short of breathtaking.

Another standout track is "El Cid," which features a beautiful and haunting score that perfectly captures the tragic and heroic nature of the film. The orchestra's performance is once again exceptional, and their rendition of the main theme is simply stunning.

2:15 - Melodically and harmonically similar to the first few measures of “The More I Know of Love”, also by Rosza for “The Killers” a year later.

Billy Wilder’s masterpiece “The Lost Weekend” had to overcome certainly a few steps, before becoming the hit it rightfully got to be. The story of Don Birnam, an alcoholic with series problems, based on the novel by Charles R. Jackson, was supposed to be filmed as realistic and unpleasant as possible, the director thought (which was something different for Hollywood’s portrayal of alcoholics at the time, who often served as funny sidekicks). He demanded the filming happening on locations in New York, so the famous “Walk” was shot with cameras hidden in trucks to avoid the public to notice the filming process.
